Wow, a three day update? This will be a difficult task.
On Day 4, we had a very meaningful time in the morning having team time and devotions together. We reflected on our individual answer to "why are we here?" and talked about celebrations and our challenges since the beginning of our trip. Dr. Moon, the founder of ICC, shared how we are ambassadors for Christ, as we reflected on 2 Corinthians 5. She also reminded us to have an open-hands outlook and posture of prayer-- ready to receive whatever God brings to us. We were thankful and rejoiced together for how God has forged us better as a team despite all that had gone on. After team time, we took the shuttle back to the airport. We spent most of the day hanging out at the airport and continuing our conference preparations. And I was pleasantly surprised by my friend Emily, visiting me at the airport! Then we flew out around 10:40pm!
Day 5 was spent in the air! It was a smooth flight and I got quite a good bit of sleep. The sixteen hours probably didn't feel as long as sixteen because I slept so much... And that's good because it's takes a lot for me to sleep well! The airline fed us dinner at midnight, desert, and breakfast at 5am - Five Spice Chicken and Rice, Vanilla Bean Gelato, and Eggs and Potatoes.
Day 6! Around 6:20 we touched down and landed at Changi airport in Singapore. WE MADE IT! We passed through immigration and were welcomed by the local East Asia team. I also got to video call and see some of my family back at home which made me even more happy. :)) The weather here is hot and humid, as expected. The view outside is so cool! Well so much has been cool since we got here. :) We rented a bus or "coach," where we drove into Malaysia. At the border, we had to go through immigration and customs. We had lunch at a food court type place located at a rest stop. There were many choices to try but I went for the Hunan Chicken Rice. It was yummy! Other people in our team had different observations... as they aren't used to eating around chicken with bones! The bathrooms there (or just "toilets" as they call it) were... interesting. I am glad I had a pack of tissues in my purse because they don't have toilet paper in the stalls. They don't just have an absence of toilet paper in the stalls... they also don't have napkins in their restaurants! Most of the bathroom stalls were squat-style; we were glad there were a couple stalls with "normal" toilets. I think it may take us a little while to bring ourselves to that level...
We drove around 5-6 hours into Malaysia, near the Kuala Lumpur area. Along the ride, we had some down time/rest time, met with our track leaders to go over material, and practiced presentations. Around 4pm, we arrived at one of the host homes. We enjoyed trying some sort of indian bread paired with chicken curry and chutneys for dinner.
Please be in prayer for the conference starting today! We are expecting over 300+ registrants, and most of these are totally new to ICC. I will be leading the Young Communicators for Christ (6-10 years old) track, which is around 50 students in size! Pray specifically for this Malaysia conference. Not all of the attendees are believers, and we praise God that He led them to this conference for such a time as this! Please pray for seeds to be sown, for the light of Christ to shine through us, and for wisdom and revelation that we may communicate and well among these people.
Alright, time to get myself ready for the day!
